Publisher’s Summary

Mercy Thompson returns in the seventh novel in the number-one New York Times best-selling series. Mercy Thompson’s life has undergone a seismic change. Becoming the mate of Adam Hauptman – the charismatic Alpha of the local werewolf pack – has made her a stepmother to his daughter, Jesse, a relationship that brings moments of blissful normalcy to Mercy’s life. But on the edges of humanity, what passes for a minor mishap on an ordinary day can turn into so much more…. After an accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jesse can’t reach Adam – or anyone else in the pack for that matter. They’ve all been abducted. Through their mating bond, all Mercy knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. With the werewolves fighting a political battle to gain acceptance from the public, Mercy fears Adam’s disappearance may be related – and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from any ally she can get, no matter how unlikely.©2013 Patricia Briggs

My Thoughts

First, let me start by saying, I’m a colossal fan of this series; in fact, Mercy and this crew are like family to me.  Even though, there is nothing extraordinary in these novels, the writing style and the author’s voice are just superb!  Her manner of writing is quiet and unassuming; nonetheless, it is simply magical.

A simple trip to the mall is the opening scene, but not even five minutes into the novel the action begins, and another imaginative, never boring plot grabs you and holds you until you reach the end.

Adam and his pack have been kidnapped; the ” Fay world” has disappeared; the government is the new enemy… Or is it?

Second, Mrs. Briggs won’t let you rest for a minute. Just when you think you’ve got it nailed, she’ll throw you another curve, and each time you just love the book more and more.

Third, Mercy will do what she does best, be one the best heroines in any UF novel. Not with the use of an immense amount of supernatural powers, but with her tremendous common sense and her brilliant down-to-earth attitude. she’ll navigate the world of male dominated politics and remind us why we love her so much (this is sounding a lot like my review of Moon Called…LOL), but Frost Burned is Mercy at her best!

Forth, I love that we get the whole crew back in this installment – specifically Stefan.  He’s always been one of my favorite characters in the series. They are all back, and they are back in a BIG way.  They each have very important roles, and it’s wonderful to listen/read about all of them.

Last, but not least,Mercy and Adam are as entertaining and touching as ever – I love them both equally; I love how the little coyote can handle the super-alpha male, Adam, leader of the pack. These two are made for each other; even without one explicit love scene, they can make the pages sizzle.

If you are a fan of the series, you should be running to get this entry; you’ll rejoice in finding yourself back in this awesome and masterfully written UF world.  However, if you are new to the genre, don’t let this series get past you.  Moon Called is the first book in the series and also a fabulous listen.

The Narrator

Lorelei King

Frost Burned Audiobook Narration

There’s a reason why Lorelei King is among my favorite narrators: she’s wonderful. If you are familiar with her work, I don’t have to say much; but, if you have never experienced her work, a good place to start would be Moon Called.  Or, if you have read this series and now want to give the audio a shot, you won’t be disappointed. Her interpretation of Mercy is spot-on.

Lorelei has a tremendous understanding of the characters in any series; she can bring Stephanie Plum, Charley Davidson, and Mercy Thompson to life without the use of exaggerated voice changes, yet they are all unique.

She has an uncanny ability to get the author’s intent. These are three different heroines from three different series, but Lorelei King could put them all in the same room, and you would never be confused for a second… That, my friends, istalent.

All in all, Frost Burned is a perfect delivery of an awesome – and not to be miss  – entry into the Mercy Thompson series.
