My Thoughts

I love historical romances, I’m fascinated by the romantic, fairytale like, idealistic and the overall feeling of that time period.

When I saw how many were awaiting this novel, I decided to download it the day it came out.

This is the first book I’ve ever listened/read from Julia Quinn, and I don’t know if my expectations were too high or this wasn’t her best effort, but  I can’t tell you that I  love this book, I felt the characters were a little flat and not so memorable, I never got emotionally involved in the story.

The hero and heroine were likable enough, and the story is really sweet. I got into the book right away,  it started great with the introduction of the characters when they were little, setting up a back story that I thought it would turn this book into a great and charming listen, but all of a sudden, it just got boring, I felt as nothing was really happening, maybe I’m just used to a little more drama, and  a little more hotness in my readings/listenings, (that’s right! It didn’t have enough hanky panky) I didn’t feel the chemistry between Honoria and Marcus even though their moments together were very  sweet and tender. Their relationship was the entire  focus of the book, which some people might find essential in a romance, but I now realize that I need a little more going on in the story to get truly invested.

Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t hate the book, I still found it  entertaining,  what I’m trying to express is my disappointment, I was hoping for so much more, it does get better towards the end, and if Julia Quinn is one of your favorite authors, by all means read/listen to this book. I love everything that Lisa Kleypas ever writes, even when some of the  book’s ratings had been below average. Sometimes you just love an author to the point that they could re-write the phone book, and you would still enjoy it, you know I mean.

I’m definitely going to try one her earlier books, she’s got a big following, I’m sure there’s  a good reason, this just wasn’t the book that made me fall in love with her writing.

I would love for you to give me some suggestions of the books you have listened to or read and loved from Mrs. Quinn.

Just Like Heaven Audiobook Narration

ROSALYN LANDOR  was once again fantastic! Her clean British accent gives the ideal ambiance to  the reading that makes you feel transported  to that era, she portrayed Marcus and Honoria with the perfect sense of their personality. She delivers the witty dialogue with just the right tone.

Her male voices are very adequate, and she seems to posses an infinite amount of voices, she manages to give every single character a distinctive voice.

I just love the way she reads these novels.
