Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this. Evelyn Thomas’ plans for celebrating her 21st birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man in her room, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened. One thing is certain, being married to one of the hottest rock stars on the planet is sure to be a wild ride.

Lick, A Stage Dive Novel Audiobook First Chapter
My thoughts
More times than I’d like to admit I buy audiobooks just because I loved the cover, such was the case with Lick. I never saw a review or heard anyone mentioned it before, so I took a shot…. And once in a while I get pleasantly surprised.
Lick is the first novel in the rockstar series Stage Dive. In this entry Kylie Scott lets Evelyn tells us her romance story, and how celebrating her 21th Birthday, in no other place than Las Vegas can lead to a lot trouble, specially after a few too many tequilas.
Waking up to find that you married a stranger is not an extraordinary tale, even if that stranger turns out to be a sexy lead singer for a super popular band, but when the author infuses it with humor, likable characters, and sprinkles the story with some angst and a heavy dose of sexiness, she sure has a winner.
Some stories are captivating because the world is amazing, or the drama is so intense it won’t let go, or the action is non stop, and it hardly gives you time to breathe – and others, like Lick, are captivating for its simplicity, and the sheer joy of enjoying an uncomplicated but fun romance.
I can’t say they weren’t some plot holes that made me think for a little, but I really liked the characters and the author seduced me enough into to overlook them, I was able to enjoy the story in spite of its flaws. I liked it enough to finish the audiobook in less than a day.
I liked Evelyn; she’s a nice girl, strong yet vulnerable enough to be credible without being irritating as some young girls seem to be in some of this type of novels.
David, the sexy lead in Lick is surpassingly simple (not a lot baggage to contend), a nice guy with very few “rock star” egomania moments and yes he’s HOT!
I enjoyed the secondary characters – they bring some of the humor in the story.
So if you enjoy a sweet, uncomplicated, light, fun , with likable characters, and a little bit of angst to keep you involved I recommend Lick.
This is just an enjoyable popcorn listen 🙂 My first by Kylie Scot, but definitely not my last.
Lick, A Stage Dive Novel Audiobook Narration
Another first for me with Lick was my experience with a new to-me narrator Andi Ardnt – another pleasant surprise I might add! She does a great job with the protagonist, and since the story is told from Evelyn’s point a view, she’s got more than half the battle won.
I also enjoyed her male voices, not that they were particularly male, but I have come to appreciate an effortless performance, and a variation in tone that conveys their masculinity.
She’s good with the humor in the story, and she certainly lets you appreciate its cuteness, not to mention the smexiness in the story.
All in all, Lick is a well performed fun little listen for those days when you don’t want to get into anything deep, and just want to get lost in a fun and sexy story.
