The Hathaways, Book 1
9hrs and 47mins.

When an unexpected inheritance elevates her family to the ranks of the aristocracy, Amelia Hathaway discovers that tending to her younger sisters and wayward brother was easy compared to navigating the intricacies of the ton. Even more challenging: the attraction she feels for the tall, dark, and dangerously handsome Cam Rohan.

Wealthy beyond most men’s dreams, Cam has tired of society’s petty restrictions and longs to return to his “uncivilized” Gypsy roots. When the delectable Amelia appeals to him for help, he intends to offer only friendship – but intentions are no match for the desire that blindsides them both. But can a man who spurns tradition be tempted into that most time-honored arrangement: marriage? Life in London society is about to get a whole lot hotter….

My Review

I have to thank Romance Rookie for introducing me to Historical Romances and to one of my favorite authors, Lisa Kleypas.

This is the first book to The Hathaway Series, and we first get introduced to the main character in Devil from the Winter, a book from The Wallflowers series, another  of Lisa Kleypas’s wonderful historicals and a must for any fan of the genre.

Ever since I got my hands of one her books, I have devoured every single release, and I was static when I found them in audio.

I absolutely loved the entire Hathaway family, and reading/listening about them makes you want to be part of this fun and loving group.

The Hathaways were content to live a relative normal life that some might  have considered a little eccentric for the times,  that is, until  Leo, the only male and older brother in the family inherits the Lord Ramsey’s title- which brings the family to the attention of the aristocracy, and  now Amelia, as the older sister and head of the family (since her parent’s death) has to worry about the careless behavior of her brother.

In one of the occasions that Leo disappears, as he often did, Amelia worried that something terrible has happened,  sets on a search that takes her to a place not suited for a lady,  where she meets the dark-mysterious  and seductive, half Irish half gypsy Cam Roham.

Cam Roham is a wonderful hero; mysterious, possessive, loving, tender, intelligent, has a sense of humor, and I could go on and on… On the other hand,  Amelia is a strong and independent woman, always trying to take care of and manage her family – a wonderful counterpart for Cam.

From the moment Cam & Amelia meet, you are captured into a world of  passion, where two completely different people come together.

I’m doing this review after having enjoyed and loved the entire series, and even though this book is not one of my favorites of the series, it sets up the story, the characters and the backgrounds to some of the most enjoyable reads/listens that I have ever had the pleasure to experience in a historical romance.

This was a fun book, focused more on love and romance than on mystery and suspense, this is what I would call just a plain romance novel if the word plain can ever be used to describe any of Kleypas’s books, she’s a magnificent author, with the talent to create unforgettable characters, and a sweet manner that sweeps you of your feet from the first few pages of her books. The world she has created is so vivid that you truly feel transported, a fairytale for adults, the sexual chemistry between Amelia and Can was scorching hot, the sensuality  is incredible, and if any series can make you develop a love for the historical romance genre, this is it.

Mine Till Midnight Audiobook Narration

Rosalyn Landor’s British accent was perfect for the narration and the interpretation of this novel. She gave every single character a distinctive voice that mirrored their personality, Cam Roham’s voice was delivered with the perfect accent that made him sound dark and mysterious (YUM), Amelia was portrayed with the adulthood typical of someone that carries much responsibility without missing her good humor. She conveys the perfect tone of the story without overdramatizing the situations.

Ultimately, Rosalyn makes this book a very pleasant and enjoyable listen.
